Students walk out of King's abortion speech (response)

I think this news was good news because it shows that a lot of people cant handle the discustion of abortion. A lot of people have abortions without even knowing what they are really about and without thinking about the baby that is inside them. Why would you pay so much money to kill a baby that is your fault, i don't understand. I think it was very brave of King to get up there a do a presintaion on abortion because a lot of people don't take it well, also for her to admit she had two of them herself but didnt know she was pregnant.

Many surprised by event billed as diversity presentation (Notes)

The niece of Dr. Martin Luther King spoke out strongly against abortion at her "Can the Dream Survive?" presentation in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium.

Some students were surprised to learn that abortion was the topic of her lecture.

Several of the about 650 people walked out.

"That whole adding in 'can the dream survive if the kids were dead' was an aspect that I wasn't expecting," Turner said. "It kind of caught me off guard."

King admitted she had two abortions herself, but that she was tricked into the procedures. The doctor who did her first abortion didn't tell her that she was pregnant.

The situation was close for her second abortion.

"We wanted to bring a speaker who would be able to talk about things that aren't talked about a lot. To bring some issues that we don't hear a lot," said Students For Life president and Muskegon senior Sean Nolan.

Turner, who stayed throughout the entire presentation, said he thought the lecture's content was questionable, but enjoyable to watch.
